State Police Warn of Recent “Yes” Scam

State Police Warn of Recent “Yes” Scam

State Police warn the public about a recent telephone scam reported in the Hudson Valley area.  Anyone who receives a phone call from an unfamiliar voice asking “can you hear me” or any other question that would provoke a “yes” response, should hang up the telephone.  The scammer’s goal is to have the call taker say the word “yes” which they then record and use to place unauthorized charges against the victim’s utility bills or credit card accounts.  Anyone who thinks they may have been scammed, should check their utility bills and credit card statements for any unauthorized charges.  Anyone who finds unauthorized credit card charges, should contact the Federal Trade Commission to dispute the charges or contact the State Police to make a report.
