The Town of New Lebanon has enacted certain legislation that all pet owners should be aware of.  The purpose of our local Dog Control Law, in combination with New York State Law, is to protect the health, safety, and well being of persons and property within the Town of New Lebanon.  We hope the following information will provide assistance with local regulations as well as New York State regulations.

DOG LICENSING:

All owned or harbored in the Town of New Lebanon must be vaccinated against rabies.  All dogs owned or harbored in the Town of New Lebanon for longer than 30 days must be licensed (Dogs residing in NYC are licensed with NYC Department of Health. Proof of said licensing is required.  If a non-resident brings a dog into New York State for less than 30 days, the dog must be licensed according to the resident state's licensing laws.  Proof of said licensing is required).  Licenses are issued at the Town Clerk's Office and are renewed annually.  A dog license cannot be issued without proof of a valid rabies vaccination. 

Licensing Procedure:
When:  
When a dog reaches the age of 4 (four) months

What to bring/send:
New Licenses:
-
a current rabies vaccination certificate,
- proof of spaying or neutering, if applicable, &
- applicable fee

License Renewals:
-
renewal form sent to you by NYS Ag. & Markets, 
- a current rabies vaccination certificate, &
- applicable fee

Fees:
Spayed/Neutered Dogs                  $7.50
Unspayed/Unneutered Dogs          $15.50

( You may have your veterinarian fax a copy of your dog's rabies and or spay/neuter certificate directly to the town clerk's office at 518-794-9694.  The clerk issuing the license must see the certificate, do not fill in the information yourself. If mailed, all original documents will be returned to you.)
